Today Tyson & I woke up at 6:00 AM to go fishing...I don't like to eat fish & I don't especially like to go fishing, but I do like to enjoy the outdoors & be up at the lake on a beautiful day! Tyson had told me a few weeks back that he was disappointed that we didn't go fishing anymore, so I enlisted the help of a generous co-worker & his wife to take us with them & show Tyson the ropes. What I didn't expect is that this guy would show up with a brand-new pole for Ty with all the tackle & a super cool pack to put it in! The best part, though, is that he did exactly what I was hoping and showed Tyson how to set up his own pole & do the fishing on his own, rather than doing it for him. He only caught a couple of sun fish that he had to throw back, but it was a nice way to spend a Sunday!

So now so far this summer, as a single mom, I have learned how to BBQ & taken Tyson fishing - next on my list is to go hiking, maybe to Table Rock...? I am woman! Hear me roar!!!

Today was registration for Pop Warner Junior Pee-Wee football. This will by Tyson's 3rd year of tackle football, with one year of flag football previously. Baseball season just ended last week! (Of course, it was an extended season, because he played All-Stars directly after Minors.) I love that kid, but I tell ya, he better make something of himself! Between his music, academics and sports, he's bound to get a college scholarship! Hopefully this will be the one area he won't follow in my footsteps...

This morning I would like to discuss a major pet peeve of mine (sorry in advance to anyone this might apply to): people who feel like they have to use big words to appear intelligent! Now, I fancy myself to be somewhat of a "wordsmith", so I can appreciate a large vocabulary and plays on words, etc. But personally, I feel that truly intelligent people don't have to flaunt their big words & knowledge in order to show how smart they are!

This rant was brought on by a flashback to my Honors English class in high school, because I read several quotes by Henry David Thoreau this morning. My teacher was obsessed with Thoreau! Okay, the guy had a beautiful mind & vision of "transcendentalism through simplicity", but enough already! There was a girl in my class who was the teacher's pet because she enjoyed using superlative adjectives (see, I can thow those big words around, too!) to write about something you could sum up in three words. I guess I'm just old school, but I read somewhere early on that America reads at an average of an 8th grade reading level, so I prefer to write in such a way that others can relate to it & enjoy reading it, rather than be made to feel like an idiot because some high-and-mighty writer wanted to feel superior and forgot about the most important part of writing - the audience!

Phew - I'm glad I got that off my chest...I think I was at least mildly traumatized by that experience in high school - for the record, I dropped out of Honors English & enrolled in regular ol' plain Senior English & had a great time & probably learned more! At least we didn't study Thoreau all freakin' year!

What is it about me that makes me a weird guy magnet? Upon seeing the lengthy letter, stating "I'm not a stalker" and "You don't have to say hello if we meet on the street", written by a 59-year old guy who dropped by my place of employment, my (smart-@$$) friend Gary said, "Wow, you really are a weird guy magnet, aren't you?"

Since then, I've pondered this question quite a bit and found it has a certain ring of truth to it...the only guys who have shown any interest in me since my divorce have been the following:

1. The afore-mentioned tennis stalker
2. The 6'7" salesman flashing pictures of his naked wife to me & other random office
employees.
3. The guy with the multiple piercings (don't get me wrong; to a degree, the whole
piercing/tatoo thing can be hot, but this guy took it a little too far), who sang
Neil Diamond at karoake.
4. The vietnam vet who umps my son's baseball games that told me he suffered from
PTSD in the same sentence he asked me for my phone number.

And, of course, the intelligent, good looking & nice guys that I've expressed any interest in have either not reciprocated or been married. So, yes, I've decided to accept my fate as the weird guy magnet for now, but eventually would like to meet & enjoy the company of a normal guy! I've been told I'm just "too nice", but I don't want to stop being myself in order to avoid these guys...If anyone reading this has any suggestions, either for turning off the circus freaks or for attracting the Average Joe, please feel free (no, really - please!) to post a suggestion.

All for now,
W.G.M.
In an on-going effort to be a non-conformist, I would like to present my "Top 10 on Thursday" (I am such a rebel!):

Top 10 things I'd like to do before I die (in no particular order):

1. Write a novel
2. Record an albumn
3. Travel the world
4. Ride a Harley
5. Set up a trust fund for my son
6. Ensure that my loved ones know how much they mean to me
7. Go to college
8. Have a career that fulfills me & reflects who I am
9. Meet my soul mate
10. Become skinny (or at least toned!)

Ok, so as a beginning "blogger", I'm a fumbling idiot, but I know that I've faked my way through a lot of things until I could do them well, such as my most recent foray into Medical Transcription. I've got them all fooled into thinking I really know what I'm doing! Moowaa-haahaa.....

Here are the results from a quiz I took to test posting these types of things here - I love this stuff!

I just took the "What Kind of Girl Am I?" quiz at http://www.cookingtohookup.com/.

I am a hybrid Progressive Girl and Girl Next Door.

Click on the link below and post your results back to me! http://www.cookingtohookup.com/quiz/forgirls.php
Oh, boy! Today I begin my journey into the world of blogging~

I'd like to begin by thanking the little people; namely my awesome big sis, Kathy, for hooking me up with the link to create my very own blog & giving me the idea in the first place (yes, I still aspire to be just like her)!

I suppose this would be as good a time as any to give a brief synopsis of me & my life up to now:

I'm 29 years old (as my son would say ~ bless his little heart: "a year away from ma'am") & am a single woman for the first time since I was 19 years old & thought I knew everything. I'm enjoying this time in my life as a reprieve from having to compromise or "check in" with anybody. For the first time in my life, I'm not putting off anything that I have control over, because I've come to appreciate how important it is to live in the now & to live with as few regrets as possible. I love being a single mom & I love having no one to report to other than myself & my kid! That being said, I sure wouldn't mind meeting Mr. Right, who would totally respect my need for independence while showering me with love and attention...I don't think I'm asking for too much, but if I am, oh well! At least I won't be settling for Mr. Might-Be-If-He-Could-Just-Change-A-Few-Things!

Okay, enough obsessing over romance or lack thereof - if you're reading this, you want to know more about me! I'm a frustrated amateur musician who somehow ended up doing insurance billing and accounting for medical offices. Turns out I'm pretty good at it, too, even though my high school math teacher would never believe it. (Insert random note here: I saw my high school math teacher at the Steve Miller Band concert I recently attended, but was pretty wasted, so I decided maybe that wasn't the best time to reacquaint myself with her ~ she never liked me in the first place, and I didn't want to affirm her belief that I would grow up to be a total loser!)

I would give more insight into the workings of my warped mind, but then I would have nothing more to write & I'm a firm believer in always keeping them wanting more...
